The map below is a directory of pharmacies that self-reported offering PrEP and PEP prescribing services. We recommend calling to confirm service availability.

What will it cost?

Most pharmacies charge a small visit fee for this service -- this visit fee is generally not covered by insurance, but you can use your health savings account. You can use your insurance to pay for medications prescribed by a pharmacist. Most insurance plans cover PrEP and PEP with no patient copay.

Which medications are available?

Depending on the state, pharmacists can provide pills and injections for PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) and pills for PEP (post-exposure prophylaxis).

Do I need an exam?

No physical exam needed. Just fill out a health and sexual history form and review with the pharmacist. The pharmacist may have you get some blood tests done to make sure you are HIV-negative and check for any medication side effects. These tests may use a small drop of blood from your finger and/or a blood draw.

Why pharmacists?

HIV prevention should be accessible and expanding access directly in pharmacies is one way to accomplish that. Thanks to new state laws in some states, specially trained pharmacists can prescribe HIV prevention (PEP and PrEP) for you. Pharmacists are experts when it comes to safe and effective use of medicines.
